Safari can't open the file

If you get this error message, below you will find the solution!

Why Safari shows this message

Safari is trying to open the downloaded file instead of simply saving it. Sample packs and preset packs (like Serum presets) usually come as:

  • .zip

  • .fxp

  • .wav

  • .serumpreset

  • folders containing presets

Safari doesn't know what app should open these, so it shows:

“no available application can open it”

This does NOT mean the file is broken — just that Safari can’t open it by itself.

How to fix it

1. Check that the file actually downloaded

Open Finder → Downloads folder. Look for a file named something like:

THM - Minimal Bass & Tech Vol.1 - Serum Presets.zip (or similar)

2. If it’s a ZIP file → double-click to extract

macOS will unzip it automatically. OR instal the unarchiver Inside you should find a Serum preset folder.

3. Install the Serum presets

Move the preset folder into:

Then open Serum → go to User folder → your presets appear.

❗ If the file is not a ZIP, Safari may have renamed it incorrectly

This happens often.

Try this:

  1. Right-click the file → Get Info.

  2. Check the file extension. If it has no extension, rename it:

Add .zip → press Enter → try opening again.

Example: Rename THM - Minimal Bass & Tech Vol.1 - Serum PresetsTHM - Minimal Bass & Tech Vol.1 - Serum Presets.zip

Then double-click it.
